Float Zone Silicon Shaped for the PV Industry

Topsil introduces PV-FZ™ silicon material, the ideal substrate for the next generation of high efficient and cost effective solar cell modules.

Float Zone silicon has generated the highest efficiencies ever measured for silicon solar cells. PV-FZ™ silicon will set new standards in terms of efficiency and stability of silicon solar cells modules. PV-FZ™ will enable silicon solar cell manufacturers to achieve more than 20% efficiency in production.

The PV-FZ™ silicon is introduced in both n- and p-type products. Both of them will have superior performance to Czochralski grown silicon, which is presently the preferred mono crystalline silicon material for PV applications.

PV-FZ™ solar grade material meet all of the requirements for future PV modules: 

  • High minority carrier lifetime,  >1ms
  • Low levels of performance degrading impurities, Oxygen and Metals
  • Tight resistivity tolerances, +/- 20%
  • Predictable and stable efficiency output
  • Competitive to solar grade Czochralski silicon based solar cells in terms of Cost per Wp
  • Short life cycle cost relative to any other silicon PV material

Topsil is a world leading supplier of Float Zone silicon for a number of applications. Extensive research and development has made it possible for Topsil to develop a state of the art Float Zone process which enables a major break through of the utilisation of Float Zone silicon in the PV industry. The process is now ready to be implemented for volume production with major benefits for the PV manufacturers on both cost and environmental issues.
