Based on extensive research and development, Topsil has developed a state of the art float-zone technology to manufacture high lifetime PV-FZ™ for the PV industry. PV-FZ™ is commonly used in R&D programmes and as reference material for line yield management, eliminating silicon material impact on cell performance variation.
The PV-FZ™ silicon enables solar cell manufacturers to achieve more than 20% efficiency in both R&D facilities and in volume production. Major solar cell manufacturers have confirmed that PV-FZ™ is their preferred substrate for making high efficiency solar cells.
Float Zone silicon has generated the highest efficiencies ever measured for silicon solar cells. PV-FZ™ silicon will set new standards in terms of efficiency and stability of silicon solar cells modules. PV-FZ™ will enable silicon solar cell manufacturers to achieve more than 20% efficiency in production.
The PV-FZ™ silicon is available in both n- and p-type products. Both of them will have superior performance to Czochralski grown silicon, which is presently the preferred mono crystalline silicon material for PV applications.
PV-FZ™ solar grade material meet all of the requirements for future PV modules:
- High minority carrier lifetime, >1ms
- Low levels of performance degrading impurities, Oxygen and Metals
- Tight resistivity tolerances, +/- 20%
- Predictable and stable efficiency output
- Competitive to solar grade Czochralski silicon based solar cells in terms of Cost per Wp
- Short life cycle cost relative to any other silicon PV material
