Float Zone silicon is the best suited silicon material for infrared applications. This is mainly because of two material properties that are unique for HiTran™ Float Zone silicon:
- The absence of absorbing impurities
- The low concentration of free carriers in high resistivity silicon
Topsil is selling two silicon products suited for infrared applications. Both of them will have superior performance to Czochralski grown silicon. One product is the HiTran™ material which is a high resistivity Float Zone material and the other product is the Optical Grade Float Zone silicon which is very well suited for infrared applications in the 1.1-6.7 micron region.
