Research and Development constitute an integral part of Topsil's business development. Product and process innovation are central to meeting customer demands of the future and minimising the environmental impact.

In particular, Topsil devotes the R&D efforts to three main areas:

• to improve the technical capabilities of silicon
• to minimise the production cost per unit
• to increase poly yield

Topsil has entered into strategic cooperation withIKZ Berlin with a view to the development of a 200 mm (8 inch) wafer, adressing the medium and high voltage levels. The product is not expected to generate revenue in 2011.

In 2010, Topsil filed patent applications for the key technology of the new generation silicon pullers in Frederikssund and for a process for manufacturing next-generation products with improved technical properties.
