When he chose to stop by Siliciumvej on that particular day, it is related to the fact that EIFO has granted a very significant amount of support to our company through the Investment Scheme for Green Industrial Production, which we were informed about the very same day.
The investment of DKK 103 million from EIFO makes it possible to realize an expansion project costing about DKK 700 million. The support from the Danish state will ensure that the project will be located in Denmark.
Therefore, Friday was a very good day at Topsil.
We have received this commitment of support because Topsil’s ultra-pure FZ silicon is a material that is part of a large part of the semiconductor technology that is critically necessary to make the green transition succeed. There are only a few companies on the planet that possess the technology and know-how that makes it possible to produce the world’s cleanest semiconductor material for industrial use – and therefore it is also a strategic decision to support an expansion of the Danish site, which will thereby strengthen its position as an epicenter for green transition and knowledge about this part of the semiconductor industry.
Not only will such an expansion provide Danish jobs from the entire palette of skills, from unskilled operators to highly specialized knowledge workers. In addition to power electronics for the green transition, ultrapure Float-Zone (FZ) silicon is also included in components used in sensors and detectors, in quantum technology, in medical, aerospace, and for defense and security.
We are happy and grateful that the decision-makers in Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs and EIFO have spotted the critical niche that our company fills – and also not forget it, here in the middle of a time when there can otherwise be plenty of things that steal focus. That is reassuring.
There have been many good people who have participated in the work of articulating Topsil and our role in the modern infrastructure – because it is not a simple matter. It’s actually a bit complicated. Therefore, it is also appropriate to thank a few of the actors who have been part of it. DTU – Technical University of Denmark is and has been for many years a work and conversation partner in many different contexts – also in this one. Copenhagen Capacity – your support is invaluable and highly appreciated. In addition, Invest in Denmark should be mentioned.
Last, but certainly not least: 1st Mile – Project Financing, which consists of a collection of people with skills that make it possible to write an absolutely fantastic application. An application that contains all of the aspects and arguments that a good cause deserves, presented in a way that it also makes sense to others than the specialists from the industry. A difficult art.
More could be mentioned, but it will not be here – Thank you all, for your contribution – I wish you all a good day
